Here is an interesting read on a conference trying to get a worldwide ban on weapons using AI (artificial intelligence).  The article explains how people are concerned about the next arms race, as well as the ease by which warfare can be conducted.

However, Bill Gates and Elon Musk have been making some very strong statements about artificial intelligence over the last couple years.  It doesn’t take too much effort to read between the lines to realize they are worried about some type of Terminator scenario.  And if you be un-Hollywood about it, you can imagine some rather mundane ways that AI could do major damage.  Choking off our food supply, fuel supply, water purification plants, electrical power plants.  An AI could decide that the East Coast of the US needs to be purged and worm its way into all of our nuclear power plants, allowing melt downs galore to do their work.  AI weapons can take care of the rest.

So are they just being the nerdy dudes looking for attention?  Or do they have some inside information we don’t know about?
